A Master's Guide to Intriguing Thesis Titles
Coming up with thesis titles can be a difficult process throughout your college and/or university career, and some people do it at different times: some decide to create a title at the beginning of the process and build their research around that, or some students will figure out the title after all of the work is completed. It is up to you to choose which is the best path, but do not be afraid to ask to help because that is what Dissertation Professionals are here for. From term paper guides to help with creating and evaluating theses, we have been in the game since 1996 and have seen it all. Here are a few tips when it comes to creating solid thesis titles for your assignments.
This is one of the few times that you do not want to be creative when it comes to a term paper, and you should try to not spend too much time on it because there are more pressing issues to think about, such as the research aspect and the actual writing and presentation of your paper. Even though you want a flashy title that catches the eye, you should be aiming for one that is explanatory, but intrigues the reader enough to want to continue. You want to keep it as simple as possible, which leads into the next point of creating thesis titles.
Your thesis title should be something that tells the reader (usually a professor or a teaching assistant) what you are trying to prove. Thesis titles are similar to thesis statements at that respect, and you want to narrow your focus. Your thesis title should be straightforward, and it should set up what you are trying to prove in your essay; if your title and/or thesis statement say one thing, but you prove another in your paper, how is your reader supposed to make the connection? Be extremely specific when it comes to this part of your term paper or essay.
Whether essay, research paper or thesis -- we'll help you write any size document!
This is one way you can be specific, and it ties your statement together with your title. Use keywords from your paper in your title to grab the reader's attention right off the bat, and your audience will know exactly what they are looking for as they are reading it. You could even take your thesis statement, shorten it a little (because thesis titles do not have to be incredibly long, in fact, quite the contrary; the shorter and more concise, the better) and you have a title ready to go.
This is another way you can be specific, and even though the example is meant for essays about literature, it can be used in any paper where a name is involved. It is always good to include the name of the main character or the title of the book your assignment is on in your title as it gives the reader a little bit of insight, right off the bat. For example, if you are writing a paper on Wuthering Heights, but you are planning on discussing the use of Thrushcross Grange, why would you not use "Thrushcross Grange" in your title? It spells out specifically what you plan to talk about in your paper, and it prepares your audience for what they are about to read.
Those are just a few tips when it comes to thesis titles, and there are surely many more you will run across throughout your college and/or university career.
